Shropshire Union

With the Middlewich Branch it is 76 miles long, it has 50 locks thirty three of them narrow.
There is a fine boat museum at Ellesmere Port, with both broad and narrow boats of all descriptions.
The canal runs from the Manchester Ship Canal to Autherley Junction on the Staffs & Worcs Canal just north of Wolverhampton.
The Middlewich Branch joins it to the Trent & Mersey Canal, the other major branch is the Llangollan.
The canal mostly traverses rural areas except for the northern end which is on the Wirral.
The Union came about in 1846 with the amalgamation of many old canal companies.
LLANGOLLAN CANAL.
This weir was built across the River Dee to direct the water into the canal, north of Llangollan, this feeder canal is too narrow for boats, although small craft could possible navigate this far.
The water supply from here is also used to feed the reservoir at Hurleston, which is used for drinking water and to feed the Shrops Union canal. The water in this canal is crystal clear.
It is at this point where they propose to put a marina for extended moorings
