The Ashby canal is a branch from the of the Coventry Canal, it's a cul-de-sac canal, originally the canal was intended to join the River Trent near Ashby de La Zouch, but it never got there.
There are no locks on the Ashby canal so it's an easy canal to navigate.
The photograph is of Cheney Wharf, moor up here to walk to the site of the Battle of Bosworth, this was the scene of the decisive battle of 1485 between Henry Tudor, Earl of Richmond, and the future Henry VII, and Richard III.
