             ASHTON CANAL

This photograph is taken from the restored wearhouse at Portland Basin, worth a visit, the Ashton canal is to the right of the picture the Huddersfield narrow to the left and the boat is entering the Lower Peak Forest canal. This is a three canal junction, very important to the Cheshire ring. The Ashton Canal is 6 1/2 miles long with 18 locks which will take you to the Rochdale canal, thence to Manchester Castlefields basin.
